Crisis Night: Christmas One-Shot RPG
I decided to build a Christmas-themed one shot because I GM for several kids' role-playing groups. I wanted to be able to share the creative/design space of the hobby with them, and this seemed like a natural extension of that. My main objectives were to:
1) Avoid character creation.
2) Create interesting moments at the table.
3) Meaningfully incorporate Christmas-y concepts like naughtiness and niceness.
I'm pretty happy with how these objectives ended up getting met. There are pre-gen character placards that the players cut out and place in front of them on the table so that the other players can see their character name and descriptions. Limiting participation in checks while offering mechanisms to help others in case of failure, and incorporating Cheer as a resource to be managed helps bring about tension. The Niceness mechanic is, to quote a playtester, "very nice".
I hope you can check it out!
